Roadtrip inside a forest? Then from the village of Spilia you can be on the beaches of Larissa through the route we present to you! Several years before 2015, the asphalting of the road from Karitsa to Spilia was completed. This is a road that passes through the forest of Mt Kissavos making it one of the most beautiful routes! Beautiful and special because from the west side of Kissavos you will be on the east side. Throughout the route you will encounter landscapes of incomparable beauty with firs, pines, beeches and chestnuts.
We have done the route several times either during the day or at night. Whenever you decide to do it has its own beauty. The route is not very well known to many, however, especially during the day you will sometimes find cyclists and also travelers with motorcycles. At night you may catch an animal on the street (we have encountered hares several times) so you need to be careful. Also, in recent years wild boars have increased in Kissavos so even more attention.
The route as mentioned is very easy with asphalt throughout the route. The turns are passable and easy either in the part Spilia – Karitsa or in the part Spilia – Larissa. The part Spilia – Karitsa is 21 km and you will travel it in about 40 minutes. There are several places with nice views of nature and the beaches of Larissa to make a stop.
Also, a few minutes after the Cave you will find a fork with the road that goes to the refuge of Kissavos. Comfortable route with asphalt that leads you right out of the shelter. For the much more daring, just outside the Cave there is the road that will lead you to Ampelakia. Difficult dirt road in several places and you need a tall car or better a suv / jeep because many places are difficult.
