The holiday period has arrived and, after the big enthusiasm, the first thing coming on your mind is: “who’s packing a suitcase now?”, what should I pack, how is everything going to fit in, and finally, from all these stuff, what’s actually necessary? If you want to end up with a normal size suitcase and leave nothing important behind, you must make a list considering the place and the time of your visit, where you’re about to stay and what you wish to do while your stay there.
First of all, the amount of clothes you’re going to take with you must cover all the vacation days, be practical and suitable for the style of the vacation you chose. Start by setting pieces from your wardrobe and choose mainly passe-partout clothes which will save you suitcase space and will help combine everything, satisfying all circumstances.
Summer’s basics are: a pair of jeans, shorts, a pair of cotton or linen trousers, and definitely a caftan and a dress, for women. A cardigan or a light jacket would be a good idea for the cold nights. Men, take some everyday t-shirts and, for the nights out, a graphic t-shirt, a polo t-shirt or a short sleeve shirt will do the work for you. A good everyday choice for women is the colored t-shirts and for the night out I suggest a strapless top and a tonic which, along with the right accessories, will transform your style from casual to formal.
Regarding the shoes, a pair of flip flops is necessary for the beach, sneakers if you have on your schedule to go hiking or do various explorations and a pair comfortable enough for any kind of activity, mainly sandals for women. And for those who can’t abandon their high-heels, a good idea is a pair of platform shoes because they are much more comfortable.
As for the underwear, one or two pieces extra are advisable to get, the same with the socks, especially if you decide to pack sneakers with you. You may also pack two swimsuits, just in case.
If you want more free space on your suitcase and unwrinkled clothes, the advice is this: roll them! Put the heavy objects at the bottom of the suitcase and above them, roll the clothes, trying not to leave spaces. Right on top, the face and beach towels will play the part of the protecting shield for the clothes and all your stuff. In this way, everything will be in place despite your moving around a lot.On the day you leave choose to wear clothes and shoes that would probably save more space on your suitcase.
The suggestion for your cosmetics is to place them in 50ml or 100ml bottles, but be careful on closing them well so they won’t open through the travel. You may also put them on travel size bottles, if you own any. The cosmetic bag may contain shower gel, sponge, razor or shaver, after shave, shampoo with conditioner for convenience, toothbrush, toothpaste, cotton swabs, deodorant, body lotion or after sun lotion, your perfume and liquid for the lenses, if worn. Girls, for the make-up you’ll need: hydrating face and eye cream, a mascara, a blusher or a powder with glow, a lip-gloss or a lipstick, a cleansing product and, optionally, a small kit with a pedicure-manicure set and an eyebrow tweezers. A brush, a clasp and a styling product for your hair are enough t for a leisurely look on vacations.Avoid much jewelry. A necklace and a bracelet along with a small clutch bag, in a neutral color are sufficient, for a night out. Alternatively, you can wear a scarf if you want.
It’s important to carry along with you a mini pharmacy. Put in a toiletry bag the following: painkillers, antipyretics, cream for the burns, ointment for bites, hansaplast, handkerchiefs, some antiseptic and pills for nausea or stomach pain. We all know how difficult it is to find a pharmacy on vacation!
Certainly, you’ll need a comfortable bag for the beach either back’s or shoulder’s, whichever. It’s also advised to hold it in hand when your leave because it would take much space in the suitcase. This bag must have only the necessary, such as beach towel, sunscreen for face and body, sunglasses, hat and maybe an extra swimsuit. Optionally, you can take with you rackets, a book or a crossword puzzle, an mp3 player and don’t forget to pack your camera of course! You can also organize your personal stuff in a small toiletry bag so you won’t get stuck looking for them inside the bag for hours!
Important documents you must have with you are the following: identity card, passport-visa, driving license, ticket-voucher, health card, money, credit or debit card, useful & emergency telephone numbers, notepad, pen, mobile phone and its charger.
