A small route that climbs uphill above the picturesque village of Athamania to end up in the alpine meadows of Profitis Ilias. The trail is in good condition with ribbons and red markings thanks to the energies of EYDAP. The climb starts behind the Velousi mansion at 935m altitude. At the beginning we find low vegetation with a view of the valley of the Moutsiaritos river. Then we enter a beautiful fir forest from which we will exit at 1350m. From there onwards, an alpine terrain begins, while at 1450m we meet a large plateau in the shadow of Kakarditsa, that of Profitis Ilias.
We are in a closed basin with Tsigori and Makryrachi, Soufla and Fourka flanking one side, while on the other side are mountain ranges above Gardiki. In front of us rises the wall of Kakarditsa with the highest peak of the southern Pindos, which also defines the boundaries of Epirus and Thessaly. Behind are the equally isolated Melissourgoi. The ascent can continue more freely towards the axis of the ridge of Kakarditsa, as well as to the highest homonymous peak.
