We at enjoythessaly love roadtrips so that’s the reason for our new article! And who does not like the beautiful routes? Whether they are in the sea or in our mountains! The route we present to you today begins from Kastraki near Meteora and ends at Krania at Aspropotamos area. It is essentially the second route to be found in the villages of Aspropotamos. The first is from the villages of Pertouli, Neraidochori, Desi. Kastraki is the starting point in case you are in Meteora or near Meteora. We continue the National Road to Ioannina where after a while we will leave it and turn left towards Mourgani. The junction in Mourgani is known to many in the area so maybe someone you know knows it. So we turn left, after a few meters the small village of Mourgani and follow the road as it directs you. Then you will cross the big bridge that passes under the Malakassiotiko stream. Immediately after the bridge you will find the junction where you follow the road to Kastania. At this intersection it is essentially the second road you can take from Kastraki. But we chose the road from Mourgani because its beauty and wild landscape as you go up is much superior. If you do your roadtrip and in special weather you can see landscapes with clouds and sun rays for many photos and posts on instagram.
Continue the road where after a few kilometers you will reach Kastania. Comfortable road that can be done by anyone. A little care is needed because you can find animals on the road. We found two, so be careful! From Kastania and after the altitude it rises and the points start with the view either to the peaks on your left, or to the plain.
A spot with heavy rocks is one of the best for the view to the plain. If you try to find it on street view of google maps it does not exist! That’s why we show it to you. The wire nets are there and hold the many rocks that fall slowly. Next of this spot is the “neck” of the route where you can stop. From there, the landscape of Aspropotamos begins with the road moving in dense vegetation next to the river. We did this route in the fall, others prefer the colors of spring. Whatever season you decide to make it has its own uniqueness.
Fir, recreation areas with wooden tables and gazebos with soundtrack the sound of the waters of Aspropotamos (Acheloos river). On this route you will find one of the most famous attractions in the area. This is the monastery of the Holy Cross of Doliana with 13 domes. Read the article in detail with photos about the Holy Monastery of the Holy Cross of Doliana. After the monastery and at the crossroads with Krania you will find a tavern that is a stop for many travelers.
The road continues to Milia Polythea and Tzourtzia (Agia Paraskevi) where in Tzourtzia you will find Alekos beach. Known to everyone in the area since in summer it gathers a large number of visitors from the surrounding villages who swim in the river!
