The carnival events started in 19th century when the music club ”Anaplasis” was founded in 1898. The main element of the carnival was the scathing satire and truths revealed through this. Tyrnavos carnival often faced difficulties and was attacked by many as there were times that interrupted because of wars and various reasons. In the old days of Carnival, locals roamed the city with some chariots, consuming local wine and tsipouro and places fires, dancing and singing.
Today, people from all over Greece visits Tyrnavos for its carnival and for the events on Clean Monday Bourani. It is a cultural event, leading to Tyrnavos, and has events for children and adults.
The Tirnavos carnival is the biggest in Central Greece, participating in this carnival crowd from all regions around dancing to the frenetic rhythms of Carnival with a peak on the last Sunday of Carnival with the great parade of floats and carnival. At the end of the parade is the burning of King Carnival and fireworks make night into day, of course the night did not end there as the whole town still amused at the bars of the city until the morning.
