Neochori is located approximately in the center of Pelion with spectacular views to all sides of the Aegean Sea and Pagasitikos. It is 30 km from Volos and to head to Neochori you follow the road from Volos to Agria-Lechonia-Afetes. Neochori was built in the late Middle Ages mainly by residents of the surrounding villages and is surrounded by plane trees, pine trees and chestnuts as well as ravines that keep the village’s climate cool and in summer.
Neochori is well-known for the quarries that are within walking distance of the village where the Pelion stone is being mined and used in many buildings throughout Pelion. Nearby is the village of Milies, known for the Pelion train and the traditional station located there.
The sights of the village are within the village, but it is definitely worth a walk in the picturesque streets to admire the Pelion architecture mansions and many stone-built buildings that have been renovated. The patron saint of the village is Agios Dimitrios, a church built in 1760 and features inside icons by Ioannis Pagonis.
Next to the church start the steps that lead you to the square of Neochori, which is paved with plaques and is built amphitheatrically with stone. From the square you can start your walk in the alleys of the village. On the square you will find a tavern that offers delicious food in the shade of the plane trees that cover the square. The highlight of the square is the sunset and the colors that illuminate the village; if you are in the square you will see many visitors taking a picture of the sunset in combination with the roof of the church.
Other churches except the village you will find are the monastery of Turkoyannis dedicated to the Virgin Mary (4km from Neochori), the chapel of Agios Georgios and the church of Ascension.
