Portaria welcomes us just at 13 kilometers away from the city of Volos at an altitude of 650 meters in Mount Pelion.
Starting from Portaria visitors can organize walks to nearby villages and  skiing-snowboarding at the Agriolefkes Ski Resort Resort located at 13 km Agriolefkes region. At the entrance of Portaria, the church of Agia Paraskevi is the strarting point of the path that goes round the village.

At the central square of Portaria and the narrow streets of Portaria you will find many taverns offering delicious snacks, local dishes among them the famous Pelion spetzofai made of local sausages, wine and tsipouro. Several shops on the main street selling local products such as sweets, pottery and handmade pasta by the women cooperative.

The cobbled streets are ideal for morning and evening walks through the dense vegetation that surrounds them. Near the square you can visit the "Theoxenia" hotel of any remnants left that in 1900 was considered the most luxurious hotel in the Balkans. Other attractions of the village is the Theophilos Museum, Folk Art and History Museum, the church of Panagia Portarea and of course the natural waterfall Karavos. Portaria is a destination of all seasons, especially in winter because it is dressed in white, the whole village is covered with snow and in summer for one breath of fresh air from the heat of the city while enjoying the view of Volos and the Pagasitic Gulf.
