The Papadiamanti’s museum in Skiathos is actually the last residence of Alexander Papadiamantis. This house was built by his father, priest Adamantios Emmanouel, in 1860, where the famous writer, at the age of 9 years old, lived with his family, until he left to continue his studies in Skopelos and finally graduated from Varvakeio in Piraeus in 1874. The winter of 1911 the author will pass away inside his favorite home in Skiathos.

The house is in a short distance from the eastern port of the island (only 80 meters) in a dead end alley. It’s a two-storey house, 75 square meters in total, divided in three rooms. All the objects inside the museum have been donated by Alexander Papadiamantis’ descendants, family members of his sister Ourania and his brother George. Around the house we find objects used by the author, among them the pen and the inkwell that he used, to write his 180 narratives.

Alexander Papadiamantis, known as “the saint of Greek literature”, left behind him a great literary work of poetry and prose, that he started writing in 1879. Unfortunately, he didn’t manage to see any of his work printed. All of his printings, found at the time, were published a year after his death, in eleven volumes by Fexi publications. Since 1965 it has been declared as a historic monument by the Ministry of Culture.

The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 - 13:00 and 17:00 - 20:00. Phone: 0030 24270 22240.
